The Johnny Campbell Band blends traditional bluegrass with original flair, delivering high-energy performances that honor the genre’s roots while keeping it fresh for modern audiences.

Led by 3rd-generation fiddler Johnny Campbell, the band brings the rich tradition of bluegrass to life. Johnny’s long-bow fiddling style is deeply inspired by bluegrass legends like Bill Monroe and Kenny Baker, as well as his brother, Jimmy Campbell, a former Bluegrass Boy in Monroe’s band. With decades of experience, Johnny has released four CDs that celebrate his deep bluegrass roots and has performed alongside renowned artists such as Peter Rowan, Jim Lauderdale, David Davis, and James Monroe. As a founding member of the Volunteer String Band and a key member of Windy Hill, Johnny’s contributions to the genre have earned accolades, including 1st place at String Summit and 2nd place at RockyGrass.

Phyllis Erck adds banjo and tenor vocals to the band. Originally from Sulphur Springs, Texas, Phyllis grew up surrounded by country legends through her father, a radio DJ who hosted Johnny Cash and George Jones. With a career that began in 1995 playing dobro in the New England bluegrass scene, she has performed with several bands and has shared stages with bluegrass icons like Jerry Douglas and Del McCoury.

Jeff Burke, a seasoned musician from New Jersey, brings his expertise in guitar, mandolin, and banjo to the group. A key figure in the bluegrass scene, Jeff is a co-founder of the popular bluegrass jamming class at Nashville’s Station Inn and has performed at venues like The Ryman Auditorium and MerleFest. With 29 years of experience, Jeff has been a vital part of the Johnny Campbell Band since 2013.

Charlie Pate, a Nashville native, is a versatile multi-instrumentalist and songwriter. With roots in Nashville’s songwriting tradition, Charlie’s original compositions and performances highlight the timeless spirit of American roots music. Now a sought-after session musician, Charlie adds a unique flair to the band’s traditional sound.

David Long, known for his soulful original songs and devil-may-care bluegrass style, rounds out the band on guitar. His debut solo album, “A Public Record”, showcases his individual artistry as a mandolinist, singer, and songwriter. David’s instrumental prowess and songwriting depth are key elements of the band’s dynamic performances.
