A Little History
 

As proprietors of the famed Time Market, the Carlino family has been serving Santa Clara valley with the finest foods available since 1950. The Time Market served the community with produce, fresh meats and gourmet grocery items not available anywhere else. The market was known as much for the friendly and personalized service as it was for the quality and uniqueness of the merchandise. Sam Carlino, Sr. sold his share of the business to his brother Joe in 1979, who later sold the market to the Jussen family. The shop is still in operation today as the Time Deli.

Sam Carlino, Jr. began his food career at age 8, helping his father make Italian sausage in the Time Market meat department, and later became a journeyman meat cutter for Zanotto's Market.

In 1992, father and son opened Sam's Bar-B-Que on Bascom Avenue, and have since continued the Carlino tradition of excellence in the food industry.

Sam's Bar-B-Que offers a wonderful array of barbeque meats from regions across the country. We use only the freshest ingredients, and all of our meats are slow-cooked with real wood-fired smoke that locks in the flavor and seals in the meat's natural juices.

   
A few facts  
 
  • You won't find the 'boiling barbeque' at Sam's. Many BBQ restaurants will actually BOIL their ribs and then try to pass them off as Genuine BBQ by slapping barbeque sauce on them and re-heating them on a char-grill. Yuk! Real barbeque fans know and can taste the difference.
  • Sam's Bar-B-Que uses only USDA Choice meats.
  • We grind our own hamburger meat from USDA Choice cuts of chuck.
  • We make our own homemade Italian sausage, using fresh pork.
  • We cut all of our steaks by hand from USDA Choice cuts of rib-eye.
  • Our Baby Back Ribs are specially ordered to be extra meaty and extra big.
  • Those same Baby Back Ribs turn a pinkish color due to the hours of slow cooking in our BBQ ovens.
  • Our Carolina-style Pulled Pork is slow smoked 16 hours and enlivened with authentic Carolina seasoning.
  • We slow smoke our USDA Choice Prime Rib every Friday and Saturday night.
  • Our chicken is marinated in our own homemade salsa blend and stuffed under the skin to lock in the southwest flavor.
  • We pour award-winning wines from local vintners around the Bay Area.
  • We won First Place in the Santa Clara County Firefighters Chili Cool-Off with our All Meat Red Chili.
  • We can cater your corporate or private event for any amount of guests.

About the Artist    
  All pig-related artwork on this site was drawn by the talented hands of Arthur Boos, famous for his pastel and ink drawings of scenes from the 19th and early 20th century.

Known for his unique ability to capture the atmosphere of another time and place, Arthur Boos portrays his subjects with a rare compassion and understanding, and delineates character with a sure hand.

Arthur Boos' skill and sensitivity are the result of a lifetime of travel, experience and observation. He has been a merchant seaman, sign painter, army sargent, lumbermill worker, sky diver, skin diver, motorcycle racer, hardwood floor finisher and Lover of Life.
